Enhance Street Appeal to Add Value to Home
First impressions count. Indeed, this applies very much to a home. A home could be said to have a very good street appeal (on one extreme) or an unattractive street appeal (on the other extreme). What gives a home good street appeal? The design and look of a home’s façade are the main elements contributing to its street appeal, and so is its external cladding. A single-fronted weatherboard home would normally be deemed to have less street appeal than a triple-fronted brick clad home.
Some ways of altering a home’s façade are very costly as structural work is involved. But, there are also less costly cosmetic ways to enhance the street appeal.

The costly ways include:
- adding one or two bay windows
- turning a side carport to a garage with a roller door
- give the porch a facelift (example, with a pair of columns)
- upgrading the flat roof carport or garage to a pitch roof
- add a Juliette balcony
The less costly ways include:
- giving a fresh coat of paint to the external walls
- replacing corroded gutters and pipework
- replacing damaged weatherboards
- re-cladding part or all of a brick façade with cement screed
- attach or install aesthetically appealing mix of different materials (example, stone, glass, brushed aluminium) to sections of the façade.
